Fact: Did you know the percentage of LGBTQ youth in foster care is larger than the percentage of LGBTQ youth within the general youth population? In many cases, LGBTQ youth may have an added layer of trauma due to being rejected or mistreated because of their sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression. One particular couple who has chosen to foster with Embrace stated “the LGBTQ community knows what it’s like to be rejected from their family. They are all too familiar with the deep wound that you have from desperately being wanted and rejected. This community can provide an incredible gift to all youth.”
Myth: Only two parent traditional male/female homes are able to be foster parents.
False! Embrace works with families of all races, religions, cultures, etc. including, single parent and two parent homes, and LGBTQ individuals and couples. There is no “perfect type” of home. All children are different, which is why a variety of foster homes is vital. The most important requirement is for a child to be in a loving and supportive environment where they can thrive!
